Credit Summary Attributes

This document describes the attributes that you'll find in the CREDIT_SUMMARY sections of the credit report.

Attribute Structure

Each attribute is represented as an object in the CREDIT_SUMMARY._DATA_SET array. For example, here we see three attributes:

"CREDIT_SUMMARY":
{
  "@BorrowerID": "Borrower01",
  "@_Name": "Attributes",
  "_DATA_SET": [ // The array that contains the attribute objects
    { // Attribute 1
      "@_ID": "AP001",
      "@_Value": "7",
      "@_Name": "Number of tradelines",
    },
    { // Attribute 2
      "@_ID": "AP002",
      "@_Value": "62",
      "@_Name": "Average age of open tradelines",
    },
    { // Attribute 3
      "@_ID": "AP003",
      "@_Value": "58",
      "@_Name": "Average age of open tradelines; exclude auth user and joint ecoa",
    },
    ...

Each object contains three properties:

  • @_ID is string token that uniquely identifies the attribute.

  • @_Valueis the value of the attribute. The value is always presented as a string, regardless of its natural data type. All attributes are included in the credit report; if an attribute isn't applicable the @_Value property is set to -3, -4, -5, or N/A; we'll look at these values more closely, below.

  • @_Name provides a description of the attribute using industry lingo. The descriptions in the tables, below, are more user-friendly, if terse.

Attributes with "Inapplicable" Values

In general, the four "inapplicable" @_Value values (N/A, -3, -4, -5) can be treated the same: They mean that the attribute doesn't apply to the borrower, and thus can't be measured. However, there are some differences between these values:

  • -3 means that the borrower has no open accounts.

  • -4 means that the report is empty. When a single attribute's value is -4, all of the other attributes will be -4 or N/A.

  • -5 means that the borrower has no items that the attribute is measuring. For example, if the borrower has no public records, the "G095S: Number of months since the most recent public record" attribute can't be measured, and thus is set to -5.

  • N/A is the same as -4.

Master List

This section lists all of the attributes sorted by @_ID value.

  • Unless otherwise noted, an attribute that's measured across accounts refers to all accounts that have ever been reported. For example "AP001: Number of accounts."" means the number of accounts that have ever appeared in the borrower's credit file, even if some of the accounts are now closed. If an attribute only measures open accounts, the description says so; for example, "AP002: Average age in months of an open account."

  • There are a handful of duplicate attributes. Duplicate entries provide alternative methods for measuring the same attribute.
